tracking software for lost phones

I lost my phone a month ago and it was one of the worst experiences. My life is on my phone! And replacing it would have cost either $700/new or I'd buy a used one off of eBay/craigslist. Either way, EXPENSIVE.

So, I need to find and install some tracking software. The main features I'd like are:

1. hourly or every 2 hours reporting of location
2. tracking on maps with Google Maps using my Gmail account
3. SMS message sent to phone for map coordinates

Does anyone know if this exists yet?

Theoretically, #1 would be pointless and resource hog but if a thief steals the phone, at least you'd get a coordinate or two assuming the phone lasts long enough. The SMS would be the most practical since it'd immediately track the phone. I guess this software solution isn't gonna be perfect.

Re: tracking software for lost phones

I'm not sure about having the hourly updates but i do believe a program called sprite terminator that can send the phones current location and also delete all info and lock/unlock the phone via codes sent thru text messages goodluck. PM if you need to find it

Re: tracking software for lost phones

I have been using Smartphone tracker and find it to be simple and dependable. It doesn't do hourly updates, but you can have it send it's locating to any email address (in a link for Google maps) you like and it will also send an sms back to whatever phone sent it the location message

Re: tracking software for lost phones

Looks like there is a newer version of SmartPhoneTracker if you search google. I've tried it and I am not sure how reliable it is... I have really weak service out here at work so it could be messing up because of that.

I am going to try another one that I found in one of the threads: http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/index.html

It doesn't look like it is quite as simple to use, but it also has a lot more commands that you can send it and maybe it will stay hidden better. Utlimately I'd like to see these cooked into the roms with some default configurations... or if there was a way to upload a config file and store it into the ROM so that if someone did a hard reset on the phone the config would still be loaded and the program would be set to run as a service by default.
