How to turn reminders from showing up on the desktop by ActiveSync?

If i set an appointment with a reminder on my phone, the appt passes and i dismiss it on the phone, then i sync my phone, ActiveSync will STILL pop up the reminder as overdue on the desktop. how do I turn it off from showing up on the desktop?
