Radio Upgrade

When you upgrade your radio, do you need to unlock the Pro? I'm running the stock rom with the original radio. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Telus 1.04. Any problems with that and Sprint?

Yes you need to unlock your device first. Here is the unlocking thread.

No, there are no problems using the Telus radio on Sprint (which is exactly what I'm doing). I've written quite a few posts about this, and I may eventually compile them one day, but changing the radio versions is sorta like changing the oil in your car to synthetic or something. It's the same engine, your device still works the same, just a little bit better now.

After you've unlocked your device, you can follow my step by step of how to flash to the Telus radio if you'd like. Pretty easy stuff. The link is in my sig.

Not necessarily. If you are on Sprint, and flash a Telus Radio, you lose the ability to update your data profile and PRL over the air. Not a huge deal, but you do lose some functionality. Updating data profile can sometimes fix an issue where you cannot access the web, so you might need it at some point.

Re: Radio Upgrade

I've read many posts in different threads, is there any consensus about which radio version would perform best in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area? If I upgrade to Telus, I could always switch back to Sprint, correct?

Not sure which one works better in your area. There are a lot of factors that could influence this. Although I like more definite answers, you might just want to try a couple to see what works best for you.

Yes, you can always flash back.

True, but the data profile and prl can just be updated manually. And honestly how often do these need to be done? Anyways, I think the benefits, better battery life and signal, far outweigh the drawbacks.

...but that is apparently only the Telus radio that causes this issue. The USCC radio allows proper updates. Also is the best performing IMO... but thats specific for my area and usage patterns.

Re: Radio Upgrade

I put on the Telus radio not that long ago, should we be updating our Data Profile and PRL often? I just learned what the PRL was, but not if I should be doing it a lot. Thanks!!
