My local sprint guys didn't seem to know anything about cracks in the chrome as a replacement defect.

Like apacho said, the defective chrome is only for a certain number of devices. The very first ones, and they are limited by MEID. So don't think it's a shot at a free replacement. It's a very small amount of devices.

Besides, if the screen is cracked, that trumps all other problems. It would still be $120 even if you did have cracked chrome and a valid MEID.

Because we get it for free, with ESRP we can get repairs/replacements from Sprint for free. Sprint is actually not supposed to replace cracked screens, but apparently in this case they are.

The 100$ is for insurance, which may or may not be worthwhile for you now since the deductible increase. Thats for if you lose your phone or accidentally blended it. This guy won't have access to insurance since he doesn't pay the premium, so he'd be SOL if he lost it or it broke in a way that isn't covered under warranty, i.e. water damage.

The chrome is chipped, not cracked. It chipped when it kissed my driveway, so I don't think it would have worked......

I should have the new one in a day or two. Perhaps I can finagle an extra battery and back out of the deal to lessen the sting.....
