GPS in the UK

I live in the USA but I am from the UK. I have come home for a vacation.I have a Sprint Touch Pro. I know that the phone will not work as a phone in the UK, but I thought the GPS should be able to work.

I have been trying with different GPS software, but i don't seam to be able to get any sign that the GPS is working.

Has anyone got any ideas on what could be a problem and what I could do to be able to use the TP as a GPS unit.

I thought the Touch Pro had real GPS and not just AGPS.

I believe that it does have real gps but programs like Google Maps, Live Search and Sprint's own navi program all need an active data connection or else it can't pull up any maps, it'll just show a dot moving around on an empty screen. I've read you can install programs like TomTom on your phone and install built-in maps that don't require an active data connection.

Re: GPS in the UK

Supposedly if you install a program like TomTom the GPS should still work. Apparently some people have gotten it working abroad, but it seems like a lot of people can't. Normal GPS devices take a bit to lock, a couple of minutes sometimes, and you typically have to be in the same spot for it to lock quicker. I've heard rumors that the GPS's were region locked, but I've never found confirmation of that, and people have still noted that they've been using it abroad.

i live in the UK, and run a vodafone TP, i use tomtom 7, and it's as good as a dedicated tomtom sat nav, i would recomend you install the free tomtom software, and then you need to buy the maps
