Why Are Files Disappearing Off My Storage Card?
 

Ok, this is starting to piss me off. A few days ago, the folder with all my pictures inside of the DCIM folder on my storage card disappeared. When I open the DCIM folder its empty. But my phone still shows all the pictures if i goto the pictures in TF3D. Even Arcsoft Picmail is stored in the same folder and if I go click the thumbnails on the text messages from people that sent me pics, they will open up.

Well today I went to catalog some of my cabs on my storage card and when I click on the cab folder, ITS EMPTY TOO.

Ive tried the basic file explorer which opens up and shows nothing inside and total command wont open and errors out the 2 folders

Anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it

Lemme guess, you bought this card off of eBay or some other 'discount' site? If so, you got a fake card. This usually happens with the 'cheap' $4 16GB (insert any size/'brand' here) memory cards.

You usually start losing your file structure once you hit the actual ceiling of the card. The ceiling you see is 'augmented' (much like a porn star) so you and your computer think youre getting more than you actually are.

After buying just ONE fake card off of eBay (the guy didnt know he got duped too and gave full refund no questions asked after i linked him the eBay page) i stick to ONLY buying cards i can physically buy, or from Newegg.com/RadioShack.com. I got my 8GB Kingston from the 'Egg for about $16 i think on sale + free ship, a 4GB Sandisk from Wally World for $20 etc etc etc.

Well this is an 8gb a-data card That I bought off Newegg not even 2 months ago for 16 dollars as I bought the phone a couple weeks into january. I barely had 700mb of data on the card as well.

* Try a soft-reset
* If that doesn't work, take the card out and put it back in
* Make sure you aren't connected to your PC while trying to browse the SD card

I flash all of the time and never have lost my music or pictures from the SD card. What ROM are you using?

currently mightys 4.14...

Im just confused though how come it SHOWS THE PICTURES IN THE ALBUM that i took with previous roms but theres nothing in the folder where they are stored at. I havent taken any new pictures since Ive flashed to the new rom but all my old pictures show in the album

That is odd, if there are there in the ROM then they are stored some where. You might search the SD card or ask Mighty where?

Then they have to be there - your personal pictures will now show up in MightyMike's ROM (unless you gave them to him).

If you have a memory card adapter, put the card in your computer and search for all JPG files. They might in the "My Documents" folder on your storage card, or the DCIM folder. Depending on the settings for My Album, though, it could be nearly anywhere.

I never had either until just recently.

I have a 16 gig sandisk card (bought from newegg) that has over 9 gigs of stuff (ripped DVD movies/MP3's/CAB's/tweaks etc etc etc) on it. The card also have probably six full system backups made with Sprite.

I recently re-flashed to Mighty 4.12 & then went to restore one of the Sprite BU files. The file explorer showed the card as totally blank. I'm like WTF, ten minutes ago the card was over 1/2 full!!

Sticking the card in an external reader on my LT also showed it to be blank. I had 99% of the card backed up to my LT so it was no big deal, but I must have done at least 100 ROM flashes in a row without this ever happening.

I formatted the card & copied all the stuff back to it & it's worked fine ever since......
