Yeah, you still have to unlock it, flash the ROM, and then lock it back.

On the main topic, I had an issue like this with my Touch Pro. The screen started to "jump around" (boot splash would be in 3 different places when booting). Eventually, there was just no display at all. You could see power going to the screen, but no display. I took mine into a Sprint store, and walked out with a brand new one 20 minutes later. This is a known issue with some of the Touch Pros. I don't know if it's a connection issue, or just a crappy graphics processor - either way, you should get a new one regardless. I have TEP insurance on my phone, so I paid all of $0 for my replacement.

They replaced the screen at the repair shop..... with one that has scratchs all over it chrome missing the power button sticks so it keeps turning the screen on, and last but not least the soft reset button works when it feels like it..... Just got off the phone with sprint and I have new one on the way
