I was just wondering if anybody has been able to create the honycomb start menu for the TP. I didnt know if it was possible or not.

the honey comb start menu has been killed my MS due to overwhelming negative response, don't know if you would wont something that wont be on future devices...

I liked it, wth is wrong with so many complainers. They move to more finger friendly and get bashed for iphone copying. Phones have limited screen space to work on and there are only so many ways to make an input menu that works. The staggered layout give better tactile and visual reference than a square grid, so it improves on the iphone baseline of touch finger friendly. Same thing with HTC changing to an offset keyboard on the TP2...offset is easier to use. Another common criticism that is unwarranted is our type of touchscreen. The nice thing that our screen type offers is the use of finger friendly UI and stylus sized UI all in one. All we need now is drivers to allow for multi touch. iphone type screen users are stuck with HAVING to use big fat button icons all the time unless you can sharpen your finger flesh to a point.

So the only thing that is really gone is the honeycomb graphics, that layout is still the same.

If they are going to keep the same offset icon layout, they should just give the option to either enable/disable the honeycomb graphic. Granted, this thing is likely to undergo a lot more changes before it's release, so this whole discussion may be moot anyway.

My comments about the changes to the start menu...

The new start menu layout is fine either way, I guess... I didn't have anything against the honeycomb but microsoft has MESSED UP!

The major issue that I see, is that scrolling only goes one page at a time... yet less than 10 seconds later in the demo video, when he scrolls through his e-mail, it doesn't stop at one page, it keeps going just like it's supposed to. Either make it stop a page at a time everywhere (which is horribly inconvenient for people who have to go long distances), or give it some momentum like everywhere else in the UI has.

I think for this reason alone, I won't even try the new start menu, a single page at a time will drive me crazy. Sorry Microsoft, why didn't somebody catch this huge oversight?
