Yea i use the telus radio now too and found it to be less prone to overheating than the original sprint radio. My battery life is still craptastic though, but it probably would be worse with the sprint radio.

Definitely... Crappy signal WILL cause rapid battery drain. Also, was your phone warm? If so, you may need to do a soft reset to get rid of any processes that have glitched and are now running extra CPU cycles.

No its not warm i use clearRAM works pretty good gets rid of any programs running in the background
