PPCGeeks - Telus Touch Pro, WMWiFi Sharing Issue

Hey all, yep i'm a newbie to smartphones. Not a newbie to networking however. Anyways...

I want to use my Phones unlimited data plan on my laptop. From Reading it looks like WMWiFi router is the program i need?

I've installed it and at a first glance everthing appears happy within the WiFi program. But when i try to connect to to my phone from my laptop, it connects no problem but does not recieve an ip address. I looked in the WiFi Router program and DHCP server appears to be enabled.
So i hard coded my IP address on my Laptop's wireless card on the same subnet as WiFi Router, put in the WiFi Router's ip as my gateway and DNS servers.......now i can ping Wifi Router from my laptop, but still cannot get on the net......any ideas?
I'm thinking telus has hacked something up so that this doesn't work? Internet Connection Sharing perhaps? Would unlocking and flashing one of the Roms on here help?
