VOIP help

I was looking all over the internet but could not find a satisfactory answer.

Apparently, there are build-in features of Windows Mobile that allow VOIP usage. There are some posts on XDA site about enabling the features that would allow using the same cell number over the WiFi. Unfortunately, the developer stopped before completely finishing the product.

Here is what I would like:

I would like to be able to use my own cell number over the WiFi, calling anyone without me or them having any additional software installed (like Skype or Fringe) on landline or cell line. Sort of a soft phone using win mo features as opposed to other providers. It would be very handy if you are abroad, have your phone as well as internet access in the hotel. Would allow to use a phone without using a computer to call anyone in the US.

Does anyone know if this is possible at this time?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

i dont thinkit is yet, have you PM'd the developer of the project that was left unfinished. he might be able to give you a more indepth answer. it might be possible but i havent ssen it yet on here or XDA. maybe if we can generate more of a buzz for it a dev might take it up n start developing it. till then i think our options are the ones you posted above. i will keep searching to see if i can find it though.

Edit: reading on XDA i found a .cab i dont know if this might help but i gues anything it worth a try. heres the original thread, and the cab is underneath

No, that did not work. I tried it a while ago, and no luck. Had to hard reset to get my GPS back though.

Here is another thread, possibly the same variation. it seems like CDMA is a little trickier than GSM. I also left a post on XDA whether there is a different approach for CDMA phones. Will see what they say. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the quick response.

Re: VOIP help

This is my setup, I don't know if it would be an acceptable solution for you:

Google Voice number, Gizmo account, SJPhone loaded on the phone.

SJPhone is programmed with my Gizmo number. If I make an outgoing call from GV, the call goes through SJPhone (over Wifi) and shows my GV number.

I have set that up specifically so that I would be able to make calls from overseas over wifi (on a future trip). I tested it a couple of times from here, it worked just fine.
