I don't understand the "My Device - Internal Storage" Folder

I've had my Pro since launch day. My first WM5/6 device. I just now noticed this Internal Storage folder under My Device. There's nothing in it. Properties says 328 MB free.

I understand that unlike WM2003, RAM is memory for running programs and ROM is storage for installations and files.

I understand that the Diamond has 4GB off onboard internal flash storage. But the Pro doesn't have internal flash storage.

I've played around a bit, moving some audible files off my storage card. Doesn't matter whether I move it to the "Internal Storage" folder or any other folder on the device, the Storage Memory is reduced by the same amount. The only difference is that Audible Player doesn't find the files if they're under Internal Storage instead of My Documents.

Obviously the Internal Storage folder is using the same ROM as the rest of the folders. So what's the point of it? And how can it have 328 MB free when Storage Memory is only showing 156 MB free? Can it be deleted? What am I missing?

Re: I don't understand the "My Device - Internal Storage" Folder

I believe this is kind of a vestige of pre-WM5. In the past, the internal flash memory was discrete from the RAM and ROM, and there was a discrete "Internal storage" folder for storage of things much like a flash card.

With WM5 and later memory management, the ram and internal memory were much more closely integrated (to get the "non volatile" storage property). I suppose now the internal storage folder is not necessary and goes unused.

Not the greatext explanation, sorry.
