Alternative to Tinting batt cover.

Ok... every one has seen the other thread where about 3 dollars worth of tint and hot water can paint your back cover. Then we can avoid it to turning gold. (yellow brown). Well... I recently got my replacement and figured to do my method in painting the back battery covey. I bought a 4 dollar crystal clear paint and a 1200 scuff pad. This is the end result. I like it 1 million times better now. Now olny does it reflect like a brand new cars paint job, but makes the metalic silver "pop". What do you thing? I sprayed it with 5 thin coats. Evenly across and waited 10 minutes between coats. Also.. prior to sparying it ... I scuffed it with a 1200 grit scuff pad to make the clear grip. Then washed it for 3 minutes with warm waer and soap. Oil and paint dont mix. I masked the lense cover and spared away. Heres some pics..... this took me about 1 hour to do. If you want to do this and got questions... ask away.

Re: Alternative to Tinting batt cover.

how well do you think that paint will hold up to flexing? like if you remove the battery cover a lot, is it going to start cracking? i've had problems like that with painting plastic.

Re: Alternative to Tinting batt cover.

Ohh... I was not aware of the dye rubbing off.lol. I have given alot of thought about the clear coat cracking under stress, flex and such. Thats one reason why I did scuff the cover first soo it grips alot better. Beware, if you dont scuff, its gauranteed that it will flake off. Well.... as for the on and off removal of the cover, I will just only remove it when only necessary. Reducing the amount of times of removing the battery will lead to londer life. And honestly I rarely remove it. If it was a diamond I would think twice since the reset is inside the cover. I will count the days and zsee how long this lasts. Another think that I will do very soon is wetsand it. Then I will remove the small bumps you see. Then is that goes well... It will have a mirror finish.
