Activesync Constantly Starts Up

I've got a Verizon Touch Pro and it seems like Activesync is constantly running as reported by task manager.

I close it and it starts back up within a few minutes or less.

Does this happen for everyone?

I have no email accounts set up at all in WM (I'm using Profimail for email, which has no connection with Activesync).

I do connect via Activesync with the PC from time to time, so there's a connection set up there, but even if I don't connect, Activesync constantly starts up.

I saw somewhere else someone mentioned that the time synchronization might have something to do with this, but I turned that off and it made no difference.

Any thoughts?

Re: Activesync Constantly Starts Up

Remove poutlook from the \Windows\Startup folder and see if that makes a difference for you, but to be honest, I doubt it will. Also, go to Comm Manager and make sure Direct Push is disabled. You could also go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB and switch it to Mass Storage instead, but that of course will break ActiveSync with the PC.

That said, I just add ActiveSync to the task manager exclusive list so it doesn't show up... it's certainly not causing any trouble if there is no account setup.

Re: Activesync Constantly Starts Up

This happens for me as well, and when I close it, my ram usage drops by 1 to 2%. Its annoying because I don't need it right now, i dont even have a mail account thats using it, so why does it still run!?

Re: Activesync Constantly Starts Up

I know people posted solutions for getting rid of activesync exclusively, but you could also try quickmenu 2.7 - http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=2132
It has an option to close activesync automatically when you disconnect from your computer. I believe it stays off until you reconnect too. It also gives your start menu cascading windows capabilities for more productivity (see link).

I wouldn't mind that solution. How do I add it to the task manager exclusive list?

EDIT: I figured it out. I think that'd suffice.

Ok. I'll give that cab a try.

EDIT: The memory isn't that much, I think I'll probably just stick with the above method. It only annoyed me when I saw it in the task manager drop down list.

Unless........if activesync is the reason my phone sometimes wakes on it's own, then this might be of more interest.

Sorry to drag this up, but I just tried this cab and it didn't work. I ran it, installed it to main memory, soft reset and activesync was loaded upon reboot.

I think killed it, waited a few minutes and it was back.

Any ideas?

Well it uses about 500-700kbs of RAM and thats about 10% of what Verizon's TP has.
