I'm using the stock VZW rom and get this regularly. I use Activesync with an Exchange Server, so am not sure if it is related to the constant polling to the Exchange Server, or something else.

One thing I do to minimize the effect (battery drain, etc.), is to go into Wifi settings, choose the Advanced button, and set Wifi to turn off automatically if not connected within 30 seconds. At least for me, this is a 'fix' to not let this drain the battery!

Touch pro cant do data and voice at the same time.
When you making phone call and no data is avaliable....wifi will go on as Exchange Server requires it .

I have been using winmo for years and never does activesync tunr on wifi by itself. I'm guessing that you're all using spb phone suite to turn wifi on and off? there is a bug and if you use just com manager it won't happen.

Are you serious? The Tilt doesn't do that. If that is true then that is a serious flaw in there design.
