tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

Just out of curiousity, anyone able to tether with wmodem through bluetooth? it's working real good for me using usb, but i couldn't find a way to get it to work with bluetooth. Pairing and detection went fine til i got to the part when my laptop try to initiate a connection and then it would time out with error 678. appreciate anyone input. thanks

Re: tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

I have gotten it to work on the stock Sprint ROM and a current cooked ROM. Have you made a new connection on your PC, and set the dial number to #777?

Don't forget that USB tethering is faster than Bluetooth.. in my experience, it also runs a bit cooler and doesn't do that annoying charge stoppage & insta-battery-drain.

how did you get it to work? i got my laptop to detect and connect with my phone, but when i tried to get my laptop to dial i got error 678.

did you have to fill in any of the user login and passwd? i didn't think i need to do that because i thought it would work like dialing in with usb.

i figure it would be faster and maybe more reliable with usb, something for web browsing even slower speed thr bt is probably good enough, a trade off for not having to have another wire connected to my netbook.

if you can, please provide a detail of how you set it up with your laptop. I (and many others) much appreciate it.
thanks

btw, the charge stoppage seems to also happen for me with usb esp when i am trying to download a big file. when the file finishes download, it doesn't resume charging... : ( for casual www browsing, this doesn't happen. maybe the big download and full speed exceed the ability of the usb port to provide enough juice?

Re: tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

wildpig, I tried eRice TP Kitchen and wmodem works in this custom ROM. I have no idea how to port this over to cab files so they can be installed on any ROM.

Re: tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

You are far better off using USB or WM WIFI router program. BT is too slow.

Re: tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

I tried getting bt working with an Asus linux netbook... didn't work since the netbook didn't support the PAN bt profile and the TP doesn't appear to suppor the DUN profile.

Re: tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

I tried pulling the wmodem and bt_dun files from the eRice custom rom, but I still wasn't able to get it to connect.

Re: tethering with wmodem using bluetooth

I have spent countless hours digging through the registry and still haven't figure out why dial up network does not work over bluetooth. The only thing I can find related to the 678 error is that PAM is not allowed on plan, but this doesn't make sense since I can load the eRice custom ROM and connect without a problem. Thanks everyone that has posted alternatives, but I would really like to get this working!

You cant run wmodem.exe on the touch pro(unless im missing something here, ive ran 4-5 different versions of wmodem.exe on the htc touch pro and none of them worked) you must be referring to internet connection sharing?
