Extending Battery Life (Disable Activesync)

This has been posted other places, but I wanted to bring to everyone's attention the extra battery life I have seen since I disabled activesync. I am new here (posting wise, I've been a member but just a witness to the excellence) so please don't hammer me about this being posted elsewhere. I will try to find the link I came across. Basically going into task manager and disabling all of the replog.exe files except one has prevented my activesync from running every 15 minutes. I tried unchecking time sync but it kept running anyway. I have seen at least a 20% improvement over the past few days without doing anything else different. I have no emperical data to back this up, but I know that I use my phone consistently everyday and before I disabled activesync, I was down to 10% by 5:00pm. I am now at around 30% at the same time of day. I will update my post as soon as I find the link and if anyone has it handy I would appreciate the help.

To Disable (taken from post at XDA, credit runoverheads)
INTRO:
1) no one WM's process start activesync at boot! not poutlook, not tmail not etc
2) no any event notifications settings stored in registry. it stored in \mxip_notify.vol file, and can be managed only with special tools like FdcSoft Task Manager

HOW to disable
part 1) remove all event notifications except one with "AppRunAfterRndisFnDetected" argument. To remove use tools MemMaid or FdcSoft Task Manager (Notifications tab).

part 2) disable acivesync's periodic attempts to sync by wireless. It also disable run activesync at system boot.
1. Open Activesync
2. Menu > Add Server Source
3. Add Server address [127.0.0.1] > Next
4. Fill in the user, pass, domain fields [again one letter will do] > Next
5. Un-check everything [optional] > Next
6. Really Close Activesync [optional but recommended]
7. Open Activesync again
8. Menu > Schedule
9. Choose Manually for both
10. Close Activesync

p.s. (wm6) if you don't complete part 2, will get
repllog /remote /h
notification event, which you never can kill. It will be appears again at boot.

Re: Extending Battery Life (Disable Activesync)

So my guess is you are not using, or don't have an MS exchange e-mail account. I.E you don't care about push mail?

Here is the link for the Active Sync Killer BTW http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948

Re: Extending Battery Life (Disable Activesync)

No, I don't use push mail or connect to an exchange server. I mostly use my phone for internet, text messaging, apps. I guess I could have put a disclaimer on the OP about not using this service. Activesync was constantly popping up on my phone using J.D.'s rom.

Thanks for the link to the Activesync killer though. Sorry for my ignorance, but hopefully this may help those that do not connect to push servers.

Re: Extending Battery Life (Disable Activesync)

In a year of using ActiveSync for an actual Exchange server connection, I can say with certainty that if you don't have a connection to an Exchange server, ActiveSync doesn't do jack squat until you connect to the PC for a sync. Not to mention, disabling it can potentially break your ability to sync with the PC.

While I'm not discouraging you from disabling it if you see fit to do so, there is really not much point in doing so, and you'd have to really provide some solid evidence to prove that it's misbehaving so badly that it's draining a battery with no connection configured.

If you want to look at things draining the battery through a data connection, look at the Weather tab, and the actual email account sync settings you have setup. Turn off beams. And adjust your power settings so your display isn't at full brightness all the time... etc.

Re: Extending Battery Life (Disable Activesync)

I think it may have helped back in the days, but I doubt it now.

I wish active sync could be started manually as an option.
I would rather have it not eating up processor/ram

Re: Extending Battery Life (Disable Activesync)

I personally just have activesync set to manual while at work. I have noticed a significant improvement in battery life. Normally i would be down to one bar(approximately 30-40%) after 10 hours but now I am sitting at 3 bars (70%). I do not think it is necessary to do this in my opinion. Also, my activesync does not come on during the day because it is set to manually sync. I hope this is helpful.

How do you do that? I don't see a Settings menu for Active Sync.

Also, never understood WTH "Data Connection" means in the Settings Touch Flo menu/comm. manager? It seems to make no difference in terms of my internet use whether this is on or off.
