Disconnect after send/recieve possible?

How can I set my phone up to disconnect from the data connection after it checks my email?

should do it automatically unless you are using push email through outlook...

it connects and then never disconnects... am i doing something wrong? just set it up through the account picker in messaging

send/receiving all the time is quite annoying... is this fixable without leaving my data connected 24/7 and crippling my battery?

I have not tried it (I use push mail with my Exchange server) but there looks like good word from several users on a reg hack in this thread:
