Location aware apps you love

So Wired has proclaimed this the year of the Location aware apps.
http://www.wired.com/gadgets/wireles...2/lp_guineapig
I bet our phones are just as location-aware as android and iphone(icrap?)

aside from the obvious live search and google maps what else are we using?

Compilation of program suggestions
gpsToday - http://www.geoterrestrial.com/
gippos - http://gippos.com/ (not much use for it but it's kinda cool)
beeline gps - http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/
Trackr - http://www.trackr.eu/
Palringo - http://www.palringo.com/
Pocketwit - http://code.google.com/p/pocketwit/
Latitude from Google - http://www.google.com/latitude/

I honestly love live search. It's one of my most used apps on the phone.

I love it too but the streets are so hard to read when I am driving. The driving directions are much better then Google Maps, but I stick with Google Maps because it's easier to read. Wish they would fix that :) I do love the new update with the addition of aerial view.

Yeah I really do appreciate everything that Live search lets you do from weather to the awesome and more detailed traffic but the simplicity and ease of use in google makes it the program I turn to first.

live search is great. garmin xt is pretty awesome though too. i still amaze friends when they see that my phone also does gps navigation apart from everything else it does. definitely a year for location aware apps.

I do love the fact that I no longer need a standalone gps device :D. One thing I want to explore and find more about is what gps enabled apps people are using besides just A to B navigation :) Is there an App out there that someone uses that gives you restaurant ratings based on where you are? (other then Google Maps :D) or a twitter app with gps? Stuff like that and various other clever location uses.

Those are all great GPS apps, but not really location-aware as discussed in the Wired article.

Unfortunately, the only one I'm aware of is Palringo. Kinda a mash-up IM/Social app. I was hoping for a few more as well...

Re: Location aware apps you love

i know this isn't totally related, but what are you supposed to do with the GPS photo option in camera?

Re: Location aware apps you love

I haven't gotten the built in gps photo option to work but you can get a 3rd party program to tag your photos. I use gps today :) then when you upload the tagged photo to flickr or some other service that supports goetagging photos you can see on a map where that photo was taken :)

I got palringo working and it is pretty nice :) it's cool that you can send your location to others :) one prob though it didn't load my contact list from gtalk. Is that your experince as well?

I use PockeTwit regularly, although I don't use the Search/Local feature, it is a nice touch for when I remember to mess around with it. Cool to see what locals are yapping about.

Yeah it's a good way to stay ahead of wildfires :) if the ppl down the block twitter about seeing them you know they are close :) I plan to use it as my early warning system next fire season here in SoCal
