It's looks like it can be fixed with some reg edits, i'm taking a look at them now. I was able to get it to freeze without the on-screen keyboard, so hopefully that is a step in the right direction.

you might have some software that interferes or alters the same reg keys.

I have a rom with the Touch HD keyboard installed, could that be the issue? I was just about to switch that back to stock regardless though. So I'll be sure to give this a go once I get home and do so.
