What's the point of JAVA on TP?

I have a JAVA application on my device from KK's rom, and I have no idea what's the use for this program? Does it just allow me to play java games or do I use this program to run them? If so how? Thanks :)

It allows you to run .jar files. If you need to run gameloft games (some of which are good) or perhaps the gmail client, you'll need this app.
