Re: Anyone know why the touch pro does not charge when tethering?

ok i'm just gonna throw this out there, and yall can jump on me if you want, BUT IT WORKS FOR ME.

I slide the keyboard out whenever i'm tethered because it helps dissipate the heat, by ALOT.

I mentioned this as a possible solution for people who had heat issues during phone calls and I was practically castrated for mentioning an idea that would "make people look stupid"

Re: Anyone know why the touch pro does not charge when tethering?

That's a very good idea that solves certain situations like the tethering. In others, the Pro still will use more than it charges. The problem gives me second thoughts about using a full time case with the Pro since that would certainly not help with heat retention.

Re: Anyone know why the touch pro does not charge when tethering?

It charges while tethering, but slowly.

My phone averages a 380-400 mah drain while tethered... an estimation because I can't tell while the screen is off. USB can only supply 500mah of power, a realistic 450mah minus 400 mah and you're only getting a 50mah charge, at that rate, it would take about 26 hours to charge the battery fully, assuming it didn't overheat and stop charging temporarily.

Honestly, who does this? Those lights are CRITICAL to me to see whether the phone is charging and when it is charged. Why would you turn them off? How is that annoying?

Folks, it's not a question of charging vs. discharge. The phone just stops charging when it's using the data connection heavily due apparently to heat.

It's both. You apparently missed the part where I said "it'll charge slowly until it overheats"

The charging vs discharging rate has no bearing on this issue, it's the CDMA radio heating up. It WILL stop charging, slow, fast, or sideways, and start running the battery down if you are constantly running the cellular radio. A slow charge wouldn't be an issue, as even maintaining charge state (zero net charge) would be fine; the point is to be able to run the device essentially indefinitely during the heavy usage, not necessarily to increase the level of charge in the battery.

Re: Anyone know why the touch pro does not charge when tethering?

As pointed out in previous posts, USB is limited to 500ma by design and thats not guaranteed. Not ever USB port is equal.

I couldnt tether my 6800 off my laptop without eventually running the battery down. It took longer to die, but it eventually would.

Heat was another issue and openning the keyboard can prevent the charging circuit from shutting down due to heat.

Turning off the display, Bluetooth and WiFi doesnt hurt either.

Every milliamp and degree counts.
