Smile Alltell GPS Question...

I've looked on here haven't seen too much about Alltel GPS because I think you are supposed to be able to use it straight away (for example, with Google Maps Mobile)

I have tried a lot of things to get the GPS to work on my new Touch Pro on Alltel and it's weird. I use QuickGPS to download the latest satellite information and when I go to Google Maps or Pocket GForce for example it will not find the satellites.

BUT. One day while riding in a car, I opened up Pocket GForce and it was displaying my speed perfectly and then opened up Google Maps and showed exactly where I was moving which I found really weird that it decided to randomly work? I left it up on Google Maps until I got home because I thought maybe I just couldn't receive GPS at my home for some reason, but even inside near my window I was receiving GPS signal.

Now, I can't get anything to work again just like it was before.

You guys have helped me once before, can you again?

Thanks!

Re: Alltell GPS Question...

It's called an extremely flakey and unreliable GPS. I'm on my 4th Alltel Touch Pro trying to get one with a reliable GPS and am having no luck. Many threads here and at XDA about the issues with the problems in getting it to work consistently. Some have no problem but many (more so than one would expect) report problems... enough so that IMO it should be recalled and repaired if a hardware issue or an official Alltel/HTC update to fix the issues. But, I'm not holding my breath because neither Alltel or HTC will even acknowledge a problem exists even though there are countless threads about GPS problems.

Read here for a little info...

Re: Alltell GPS Question...

Ah, thanks. That's ridiculous. It's probably a problem with all phones so I won't bother to try to swap mine out for a different one. I supposed I'll wait for a fix. What is that GPS Test program you were talking about and is there a bluetooth GPS device that you recommend to go with the Touch Pro?

GPS Test
http://www.smartphonefreeware.org/do.../gps-test-1.04

I bought TomTom Navigator 6 and it comes with a very good bluetooth receiver for $119 off Amazon. It is very easy to switch between the internal GSP (when it "feels" like working) and the external bluetooth receiver. Works well on the Touch Pro.
