"Student's Antenna Tweak Leads to Vastly Improved Battery Life

A student at Canada's Carleton University has discovered a new way to drastically improve battery life on mobile phones by changing the way the antenna is connected to the device. The method eliminates all the wires used to connect the electronic circuit board of the phone with the antenna. Rather than wires, the antenna communicates with the circuit board via a small RF transmitter embedded in the circuit. The method reduces power draw on the battery by 12 times, and will be less-costly to produce when compared to traditionally wired configurations. The inventor, Atif Shamim, an electronics PhD student at Carleton University, has filed for patents on the technology."

I know this doesn't help us TP owners, but it is interesting, huh? Perhaps other HTC models will use this in the future.

I was looking for info on new phones coming out and came across this article on PhoneScoop (I think it's called)

Do you live in that area or something?

No I dont but I am involved in a project that uses small chips and has to do with sound. Battery isnt really a main concern but it is definitely something to look forward to. Happy 2009

This almost doesn't make any sense though...powering a RF tX and rX?? And supposedly it uses less power than a direct wire?

I don't follow or frequent that forum. This is the only ppcgeeks forum I read. I figured with all the TP "bad-battery-life" threads this would be interesting for TP owners. Anyway, I hope I didn't break any forum rules by posting this.
