Problems transferring large files to SDHC

I've got a 8gb class 6 SDHC formatted to fat32. I am trying to transfer my Garmin maps to the card but I am receiving an error "Cannot copy [FILE]...I/O Error".

I don't have a card reader that reads high capacity cards. I have been using ActiveSync and "Connect to PC via Disk Drive" feature with no success. I have formatted the card three times but I still receive the error when transferring large files (ie 400mb). I can transfer 10mb files fine.

I'm thinking I may need to get a SDHC card reader but I'd like to get your opinions first.

Re: Problems transferring large files to SDHC

I get a weird error too. I have a class 4 kingston 8gig card, it doesnt happen all the time though, but when it does, i have to restart the phone for the storage card mode to be recognized by the pc again. I think theres something wrong with the drivers synchronization.

Re: Problems transferring large files to SDHC

Well the thing is that the PC still recognizes the card even after the I/O error. I can still transfer smaller files over right after the erorr. I guess I will have to wait next week until my new laptop comes in which has a built-in HC memory card reader. I just have to swap my memory cards to use my Garmin GPS, which is annoying but there's no sense in buying a $20 card reader now.

Did you try syncing through active sync instead of disk drive mode?

Yes. I receive the same error when transferring files through ActiveSync.

And you don't have any problems transferring smaller files?

Re: Problems transferring large files to SDHC

Nope. Just the larger ones. I transferred a few hundred mp3's without a problem. It's just when I need to transfer over my Garmin maps, Sprite Back-up's, or ROM image (larger files), that's when the problem begins.

That's weird... I hope you can get it fixed... However, as you like to transfer a lot of files to your Storage Card, you may want to check this out... It is a great registry edit that dramatically speeds up your SD card... It is a simple .CAB file install...

Will it increase the speed even though you are transferring over USB?
