Best settings to play a divx movie using TV out cable

I play Divx movies all the time on my Touch Pro, I love how it plays the movies in its original resolution and we dont need to convert them to play on the small screen.
However, when I plug in the TV cable to a tv-set, the movie begins to stick and jump around and becomes unwatchable.
I tried turning on airplane mode to reduce CPU or whatnot, no help. I eventually figured out that choosing Quality - Low from the Video Options at least played the movie smoothly, however the movie was obviously of lower quality. I felt cheated, because I'd rather down convert the original movie (and save space on the memory card) then to play the movie at half quality.
What do you think, what settings do you use to get the most out of using the tv out cable?

Not sure... If you convert the original file into a lower resolution, then play it, like you suggested, does that help?

The best setting would be the vga resolusion of 640 X 480.

thankfully, htc didn't buy the video drivers from qualcomm, so we have to deal with this... a multimedia phone that can't handle multimedia applications. woohoo. yes, downgrading the file will work, but its time consuming, and really shouldn't be necessary.

Re: Best settings to play a divx movie using TV out cable

What settings are ideal? Most of my divx movies are already near 640 pixels. (640x352, 640x336, 704x304), etc...
I want a nice smooth playback, I'll do whatever conversion is necessary

Try just knocking resolution down to 520 across, that should help quite a bit.

Heres a thread talking about general video playback and the video-out cable on our TPs http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46935 ... a few people posted different codecs and settings that they had good results with ...

Theres another thread I can't seem to find that claims these settings are best:

Video Format: MPEG-4 AVC
Resolution: 640x360 (maintains 16:9)
Video bitrate: 1000kbps
Frame rate: 29.97 (progressive)
Audio format: AAC
Audio bitrate: 96kpbs, 48kHz

It seems like DivX is a bad format for the TP ... people have had the best results playing MP4 video with WMP and the settings mentioned at that thread ...

Also keep in mind that if the display you are connecting to is non-HD or has a low contrast ratio you can probably get away with a much lower resolution video without noticing it much at all ...

In any event, good luck, I'm ordering my video-out cable this morning ... If you find a good solution please PM or post so I can use it too

Our TP would choke on 640x360 h.264...but I guess that's a relatively low bitrate. That being said, XviD/DivX at that same bitrate would play a hell lot faster than AVC.
