Bad ESN (Sprint), what other networks can I use it with?

Hello I need some help.. My buddy has an HTC Touch Pro from sprint with a bad ESN. He was wondering what networks will allow him to use that phone with a flash to use the phone on that network. And what roms can he use? I heard that cricket will allow him to use the phone, what else? Metro PCS has the MetroFlash thing.. I wonder if that would work as well? Im sorry if the topic has been covered already.. Thanks!

So your buddy stole a phone or bought a stolen phone

Doesn't have to be stolen. Could just be a phone on a delinquent account due to non-payment.

He can either switch to another carrier or reprogram the ESN.

sorta along this thread.... can I use another carriers phone on Sprint? I've noticed the other local carriers have a MUCH cheaper TP than sprint is offering. And it doesn't matter where I look. For instance I saw this...http://www.letstalk.com/cell-phones/shop.htm
(change the brand to HTC to see what I'm talking about)

Sprint only allows their ESNs on their network, so unless you have a Sprint ESN and you can hack a phone to change it's ESN... good luck!

Because those other carriers charge more than Sprint for service and are making $ hand-over-fist on the back end. You can get a VZW Storm from Let's Talk for $124 after all the rebates, but if you want to be able to tether it's $60/month on top of the voice plan.

Also, I can confirm that Sprint's ESN database is still locked up tighter than Princess Leia to Jaba the Hut (a policy they may want to re-think, considering how that all turned out). They refused to allow me to port over my XV6800.
