record hi-res video?

I used the video capture for the first time yesterday. I was very happy with what I was seeing as I was recording, and sooo dissapointed later when it was the same old low-res movies we've had since WM1.0.. Is there a way to record video in 640x480?

Are there any pocket PCs out there that have a camera that is actually usable in terms of time-to-take-the-picture? I start the camera app and wait.. It's like vacuum tubes warming up or something.. The screen finally comes up and the auto-iris corrects and it tries to find the focus. I put my finger on the button and it re-sets the focus to the highlighted area. I press the button again, and almost a second later the picture is finally taken. I guess this works for landscape vistas, but when you have three kids you always end up with blurry memories of what almost happened..

i think there is a registry hack to enable higher res video. forgot what thread it was i saw in the mogul section but i think would work also for tp or there might even be better registry settings...

Anyone?

Yeah, the camera is trash, but everyone knows this!

This camera IS limited to 320*240 video, but its currently not performing up to its potential. Htc really shytted on us with the bad software in it this time. Auto focus also limits the shot quality with its "shutter lag", there are a couple people working on a fix to cutting it off completely or having it as a toggle option.

Try this, dial any number (voicemail) and while the phone is in call, go to camera and take a picture. For some reason, autofocus is off during calls. With autofocus off, the pictures come out better.

If you think the video performance is bad now, wait til you try upping the resolution. Good luck on that. I can barely tell what the hell is going on in my videos. I think I am getting between 10-15 frames per second. Pretty poor compared to my 320x240 M1 that recorded 20+ FPS.

Nope, HTC is involved in a conspiracy, along with many other manufacturers to "limit" our cellular technology, (in America.) There is no reason why we couldn't have similar devices that Japan has, but they cripple some part of a phone, so that we come back 6 months from now, getting the SAME EXACT PHONE, but in a new color, and with the crippled feature now un-crippled. It's common practice, on American phones. Just look at Verizon, they take the cake.

Actually, by default, it's not even doing 320x240. It's doing some smaller QIF resolution--I forget what it is, but it's awful.

I don't think it's just bad software, guys, I think it's a cozy combination of bad hardware, bad software, and bad design from the ground-up.

I'm still keeping it though, cuz it's all they have. Sucks, but what can you do?

Samsung Omnia maybe? lol, this is a htc thing. Hopefully this is my last device by them (saying that someone else starts making winmo in the US :X ). As a matter of fact, the similarly built X1 shoots 640*480, and its camera module is only slightly different, shame htc. Samsung needs to make a vga slider next!

Stop tempting me, demon! I am trying to forget about the X1--because it's so damned expensive, and so delicious-looking, with it's amazing camera, and higher build quality.

Is there anything we can extract from the x1 to make our cameras better? HTC makes the x1 afterall...

Yes, but Sony has the say in what software is used, and how well it's locked down.

Perhaps we can use some of it, but don't get your hopes up. I have 5 days to return my Pro and try to get the X1. :)

NAw.. the registry hack is actualy enabled on the Pro. but it performs differently. I am looking for a motion jpeg capture since that was possible from the 6700 Mogul,Touch... but oddly not for the Pro.

Re: record hi-res video?

What I don't get is: when I was shooting the video, the view on the screen looked GREAT! full res, full frame rate.. Could this have been a limitation since I was saving directly to a storage card (ie write speed)?
