So the original htc touch pro has the camera up front too, do you think its still there but just under that sprint logo and plastic?? I would think it would be to much of a hasle for htc to change all these features for different carriers, but then again, the back battery plate is differnet...

Nope, it's not there, not even sure if the hook ups are even there. Do any of the US carriers offer the Touch Pro (Gsm and CDMA) with a front camera?

There's no need for the camera now... Sprint would have had to begin a project to support more video calling features, but they didn't feel it necessary so they saved money by taking out the front facing camera.

i dont know if it was cheaper for spint to do this... example, i work for the post office, they have all air conditioners out of the delivery trucks and the big rigs, recently they ordered new big rigs and they came with air standard, the good old post office paid extra to have them removed, also when they got new vans they came with a/c and they paid extra to remove them.... so in short sprint might have had to actually pay more for them to design and produce a different version, which is retarded. but so it goes...

The phone was physically redesigned for Sprint. The CDMA changes alone were internal, and then they changed the entire body for Sprint. So why would they make all of those other changes, but leave in an expensive component like a CMOS sensor that they would then cover up with plastic that was added as part of the changes they made for this version?

oh no i didnt mean they left it in, i meant they probably actually paid more to have it removed. as you said, the phone was physically redesigned.

I was referring more to the OP than your post. Yours sounded very sadly accurate (especially of the government). In this case, though, besides the silliness of redesigning the appearance which seemed unnecessary (although I do prefer the rounded design now), removing the camera did make sense even if it cost them to do so (I doubt it did, though, as NO American networks support video calling, so HTC had to have taken this into account when designing for any of them) as it would create a marketing fiasco to leave it in and create the assumption that the phone could do something Sprint couldn't support.
