Pro randomly turns its self off
 

Lately I've noticed my Touch Pro will randomly turn itself off. Last time it did this, it was maybe 10 mins fresh off the charger, I pressed the power button a few times, nothing, did a soft reset and it restarts. I've got the TEP plan on the phone, not sure if a hard reset will fix this. Anybody else having this problem?

ive seen threads where it turns on, but off, thats a new one to me.

haha, yeah my problem is that it turns on randomly... are you sure its off OFF and not just freezing? did you install any new software recently?

when it freezes again, try plugging it into the computer, and see if the computer recognizes it..

The last thing I installed on the phone was the Gmail java app, then I uninstalled it due to too many errors. Actually I don't have much installed on this phone compared to my old Mogul, so far just:

TomTom Nav
Internet sharing hack


It just might be freezing. I know when I unplugged it from the charger, I surfed the web on it for sec, then set it down. Went to use it 10mins later and it wouldn't "wake up" with the power button, even pressing it a few times. I did a soft reset and it was fine, strange.

hmm.. if you haven't installed anything yet, try hard resetting it. i hard reset mine when i first got it, because i read so many things about hard resetting curing numerous problems that were otherwise unexplained.

Did you ever figure out what caused this problem?

Same thing seems to happen to mine about once a week. I take it out of my pocket or off the desk after not using it for a couple of hours and it won't power on. Black screen. I do a soft reset and it turns on fine, battery power is at 60% or higher.

The first time I thought it was because I had left the Wifi on and the battery had overheated and it had turned itself off. This time though nothing was running that would cause it to overheat. It was in my pocket and didn't feel warm.

I guess it could be frozen with the screen off? I'm running the stock Sprint ROM that I hard reset the day I got it. I've added the standard tweaks listed on the stickied post here and installed quite a few standard programs. None of them were running when this problem occured though, and they are all installed on the device, not the card.

Annoying since I will be missing calls and messages without even knowing its dead in my pocket....

I know what causes it.... the cold allows more static electricity to build up and it shuts the phone off which makes you have to pull the battery.... happened to me when it was 20F out and i had 3 layers and it was in a case... also happened to my mogul.

Only problem with that theory is I live in California and I haven't seen a temp approaching 40 F in 20 years. What is this layers of clothing you speak of? shorts and t shirt 365 days a year ;-)

I'm wondering is there some sort of log program to run that you could look back at to see what time it froze and what was going on at the time?

Touch Pro Shutting Off
 

Hi, my touch pro keeps shutting off and not powering back on until I push the soft reset a couple of times or take tha battery out and put it back in. I noticed the problem when i placed my phone to charge over night, after waking up it takes forever to turn back on and it continues to shut off during the day. I have downloaded a few things to my phone, like the flipping clock and some games and the patch to fix my gmail. Do I need to uninstall something to fix it. If so what do I do to reset the thing without losing my numbers? And how do I know what I download is save for my phone? Can someone please advise?

I would hard reset your phone and see if that fixes it. But as far as your contacts go, download PIMbackup and back your contacts up. I use the same program and it works great for my needs.
