Re: In Europe, will GPS work on TP?

I don't know for sure but I seriously doubt anything will work unless a working data connection exists first in the phone. The GPS circuitry is probably tied to it in such a way that even if it receives the GPS signals, no data can reach the phone so it's effectively useless. Garmin was working on a cell phone model for a while (don't know offhand if it was ever available) and perhaps it was able to function solely as a "pure" GPS unit, but I'd be surprised if the TP can function at all unless it has a cellular voice and data signal reaching it.

Re: In Europe, will GPS work on TP?

Isn't Moscow, Russia in Asia and not Europe?

MykeHype,

Russians and most people consider Moscow to be part of Europe. In essence, Russian spans two continents.

Re: In Europe, will GPS work on TP?

It's not that hard to answer...

As long as you're using a third party GPS app that has the maps local on your phone (ie. TomTom) then YES it will work without any cellular or data connection. The program relies on the GPS data to find where you are.

As for programs like Google Maps, while it does use GPS satellite data to find your position, it still requires a cellular and/or data connection to download the maps to display on your phone.

Re: In Europe, will GPS work on TP?

You should have no problem getting a GPS signal. I'm in Iraq and can get GPS coordinates with my Mogul using the HTC GPS tools. As long you already have a program already installed on the device with the maps you need you should be good.

Re: In Europe, will GPS work on TP?

That's interesting - would you mind posting some links or more info about this HTC tool? I don't know if I'd ever be in a situation with no signal and a need for GPS, but it'd be nice to have.
