D-pad only works in up direction

I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this situation. My D-pad will only work in the up direction no matter what program I'm in, I've had the TP for about two weeks now an I'm running the stock ROM. I did a hard reset right out of the box before I did anything with the device and my build date is 10/25/08, any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: D-pad only works in up direction

The D-pad is tricky. If you want to go Left-right, try pressing on the flat part outside the ring, not actually on the circle/ring itself. Same thing with down, right under the ring and see if that works...

This is a known problem with Touch Diamond's and Touch Pro's. The dpad keys, for whatever reason, don't have the sensor positioned correctly underneath, or the sensors are too small. Take your phone back to a Sprint store and ask for an exchange. Try to come up with as many reasons to exchange it flat out (i.e. battery life, dpad, screen sensitivity). The reason I say this is because Sprint will want to repair the phone, and if it takes an extended period of time, they will give you a loaner (yuck!).

Thanks for the quick reply, I tried your suggestion and the D-pad will work in the up and the right direction but not down or left. I think I might have a bad unit.

No prob - take it back and swap it out. If you are within 30 days or have TEP it shouldn't be a problem.

I have built a good relationship with the store manager at my local corporate sprint store, I mentioned to him about this issue and he said if it continues to bring it in for an exchange. This guy has been with the company for about 15 years and is all about customer service which is unusual in this day and age. Thanks for the tip.
