FastCharge Registry Edit Question (USB Charging)
 

I noticed that No2Chem put a registry edit in his new ROM (disabled by default) where it removed the phones charging power limiter and makes it always draw the full charge.

I was trying to find some more information about this edit and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction?

I have searched google as well as these forums and cant seem to find anything!

My main concern is charging with the USB cable (I know disclamers are standard, but I like to at least read about them) I charge my phone via my PC USB cable 99.9% of the time and I know the disclamer is specifically geared towards USB charging.

Im just wondering if it makes sense to leave it disabled if you charge primarily with USB or its okay to still enable it?

Power limiters in electronic devices are there for a reason. Mainly to keep either the battery, or device itself, from drawing to much power overloading the cells and/or capacitors in the device resulting in damage or premature failure of the battery or phone. PSU's in computers use this method for each rail (regulators) to give the component ONLY the amount of power it needs to operate fully. Without these regulators, Your MB or components would fry like an egg.

+1 on it's there for a reason. Unless your are using a double ended USB cable (on the computer side), I would NOT disable the power limitation. It would be way to easy to fry your USB port on the computer.... (as an aside that power limitation is why some older chargers don't work for the TP, the TP trys to draw 900mA from a device capable of supplying 500 mA and the charger just shuts down...)

Yeah, there isn't any way to pull more than 500ma from a USB port safely.

to be honest, it seems to work fine on the 2 computers i've connected it to, but... i think the primary concern with third-party chargers that only output 500mA or less, or some old usb controllers that don't want to supply 1A - most computers will have USB connected to a +5V rail on the motherboard which probably could supply at least 1A... but then again, not throughly tested so.. at your own risk.

I do have to ask though, if quickly charging is such a concern to you, why don't you just use the AC adapter?

for me, the AC adapter is sometimes out of reach, or i want to charge in my car... apparently my car charger isn't detected at AC, resulting in a slow 500mA charge.

thanks! so is this going to work for the titan soon?? I also have several car chargers that are rated for 1amp but don't have pin 4&5 connected.
