Default on-screen keyboard layout

Has anyone else has issues with not being able to change the layout of the on screen keyboard for text messaging? I wanted to try it in the standard number pad layout with T9, but I'm not able to.

I've gone into the settings>input and changed the input method from full QWERTY to Phone Keypad. However when I launch text messaging again and bring up the onscreen - its back to the full qwerty layout.
I can then go back into the input settings and the input method will be switched back to full qwerty.
I know the change initially takes because I tried setting it to phone keypad, then closing out of the input settings, and then going back into start>input and its still set to phone keypad. However once I launch messaging it reverts back to qwerty!

Anyone else encountered this? I did a forum search but couldn't find a useful answer. Thanks!

Re: Default on-screen keyboard layout

Mine is worse. I can go to the input tab under settings, change the setting, and hit OK, but when I go right back in it's back to Full Qwerty.

Talking Re: Default on-screen keyboard layout

Hey Marked - I found a fix for mine, try this.

Go into start>settings>input and select phone pad (or whichever you want), then close it out by clicking ok.

Now go into text messaging - the indicator should still bring up the qwerty keyboard with a tap, now that the keyboard is on screen, you should see a little up arrow next to it. Tap this little arrow, and This should bring up a new touch input settings menu hasn't been seen before. Select your preferred input method and it should stick now. At least mine did.
