Touch Pro causes wireless on laptop to disconnect when connected via USB

Every time I connect my Touch Pro to my laptop, my wireless signal gets disconnected. Last night I realize that I see the data transfer arrows transferring data while this happen. I think somehow something on the Pro is stealing the wireless connection from the Laptop. When I go into Connectivity Manager on the TP, the Wireless LAN is grayed out while it is connected to my laptop.

I am thinking that it is a setting on my phone which is set to update whenever I connect to the active sync. I am running Windows XP SP3. I have a built in wireless on my laptop.

Has anyone experienced this before? What do you guys suggest?

Re: Touch Pro causes wireless on laptop to disconnect when connected via USB

I've never been able to come up with any solution but I've experienced the same thing. In fact, I had the same thing happen with my mogul I believe. I only connected it to the laptop when flashing roms so I can't remember for sure but i've been using mymobiler a lot with my TP so i've definitely noticed it. Funny thing is that it doesn't seem to be consistant. Are you seeing it happen 100% of the time that it's connected?

I haven't had that problem...maybe if you uncheck the USB network box in settings.

open an internet window on the laptop, then connect the Tp via AS or disc drive. Then you should have no issues. I have no idea why it's this way, but it works everytime for me.

Re: Touch Pro causes wireless on laptop to disconnect when connected via USB

I think it started over the weekend for me. I have been able to connect it to my computer when I just got the TP and I did not have any problems. I think I noticed it on Sunday. I have been unable install as many applications on my TP because everytime I connect it does this. My wireless continues to go on and off until I restart my computer. I always have a browser window open, and this still happens.

Re: Touch Pro causes wireless on laptop to disconnect when connected via USB

Okay, I made some changes and I am not sure if I have fixed my problem, or if one of the things I did fixed it. Here are the changes I made:
1. I turned off WiFi before making my connection (I do not think this did anything)
2. QuickGPS, I changed the option to "Auto download when connected to PC via ActiveSync
3. In Start->Settings->Connections->USB to PC, I unchecked the box that "Enable advanced network functionality (clear this check box if ActiveSync does not recognize this device)

I am not sure which one of these did it, but I am hoping that it is fixed now. Normally, I would loose connection by now.

My bro came up with a solution that might work for y'all. He uses PDAnet and his wireless doesn't disconnect.

I think you might misunderstand what my problem is. When I connect my phone to ActiveSync or to install programs and transfer files, it kicks my computer off the internet supplied by my home wireless network. It seems like it is 'stealing' the internet connection from my laptop and somehow redirecting traffic to the phone, or something.

I think that was your deciding factor

Re: Touch Pro causes wireless on laptop to disconnect when connected via USB

Change the settings on your wireless card. Mines is set to prompt me before disconnect.

Tools, Settings, Rules Engine, Both set to prompt, problem fixed!
