Re: Careful the Screen is GLASS
If it's like other PPC's I've had, there is a thin layer of glass below the plastic digitizer. The layer of glass and the one underneath is usually where the actual LCD goop resides. Without pushing really hard and causing LCD "ripples" you probably won't ever see the glass without, um, dropping it like someone else did above.....

Re: Careful the Screen is GLASS
All LCDs are etched on glass, so there is glass in there. However, the casing itself is plastic. If it were glass, it would be much more durable and we wouldn't need screen protectors as badly to protect from scratches.

Re: Careful the Screen is GLASS
Topic title should be
Careful, it has a LCD touch screen. Yes, those break if you drop them. Like buttered toast, sometimes you get lucky and they land butter-up, and don't break. They can also break if you put them in your back pocket and sit on them, use them as hammers, or throw them at walls. Be careful out there...

Re: Careful the Screen is GLASS
All touch screens have a layer of glass as well as several layers of mylar, polorized film and the digitizer.. The LCD it self is glass, yes all touch phones can crack like this.. Even worse on phones with hardly any boarders or edges. This also happens on Zunes, Ipods, Iphones and other Mp3/players with large LCD.
Sorry for his loss, hopefully he invested in the $7 TEP, or does so before reporting the loss. -CC

Looks like it landed on that bottom right corner and that took most of the impact. Hope he has insurance.

Re: Careful the Screen is GLASS
No, the screens are glass. The top layer may not be but during HTC's Diamond annoucment earlier in the year, one of the execs mentioned there's glass in the screen.
In case someone still disputes the pictures: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDS5BKkmoTM About 1:08 in to the video, they cover the display technology. Last edited by StakeX; 11-03-2008 at 04:58 PM. |

Re: Careful the Screen is GLASS
Yes, but the part where you place your finger on, the casing is NOT glass, it's plastic. The GSM versions have glass from what I'm told, the Sprint version is plastic and is the reason why we get the nifty screen protectors. I would have liked it to be glass because its hard to scratch a iphone's screen, but hey it is what it is. I do understand; however, the LCD portion is glass, gotcha on that
Either way, be easy and careful with this baby.... My TP hasn't been further then arms reach since I've had it.
