Using GPS abroad?
 

I'm getting the TP as soon it comes out with Sprint, but I was just wondering if I would be able to use it abroad (mostly Europe). From my experience the qualcomm chips these babies come with have standalone GPS capabilities, right? How would one go about accessing that chip in order to change that option?

Perhaps that can even serve as a temporary fix for those suffering from GPS lag?

You just need software with maps for where you are going (i.e. igo8 ). The GPS will work fine with software like that.

Yes, I know that much, but I think the default is the GPS will use the assistance of the network to get GPS coordinates. This assisted GPS is good when you have service because it allows for more accurate location based services. That wouldn't be available when travelling in other countries so I was wondering if the there's a way to change the GPS coordinate grab to standalone only so it doesn't have to rely on a network.

So how is the Sprint TP which is CDMA going to get network-assisted GPS info when there is no CDMA service in Europe?

It will work like a standalone GPS but no aGPS.

so it will automatically switch gspone modes without any modification to the chip?

When I attempted to use my Mogul in Europe it would not lock onto a GPS signal. I assume they are using the same family of GPS processors?

It will work when you have no service (turn off your phone radio and try it), albeit it will take much longer to lock on...

I was under the impression the Raphael uses eGPS, which is the next generation of GPS technology, which should not require network assistance to function.
