Qustion about Qvga apps on Touch Pro

although I think the answer wont be in my favor, will qvga apps work on the touch pro? thats isnt a deciding factor for the pphone, but a total bummer if no.

They work. Some map themselves to just the upper left corner, and some pixel double (both dimensions) to fill the screen.

I have an axim v51 with a vga screen and most apps double the pixles and fill the whole screen. I rarely have problems with an app for that reason.

WM has a so-called compatibility mode. If an app is not specifically compiled to tell WM it knows about resolution and DPI settings, WM presents your device to the program as 240x320 QVGA. This way, most QVGA apps simply run on VGA. (And I can verify that at least on the Diamond, most apps just work). WM then simply scales the application to fill the screen. (One way to notice if this is happening with an app is that you can see the text is smooth and looks high-res, except on the menu bar at the bottom)

Actually that was quite a nice move of MS. However, there is a bug with compatibility mode and 320x320 devices (like the Treo800w) that prevents some apps from running. Luckily, the Raphael is not one of those devices.

However, of course, some apps do tell WM they know about resolution and DPI, but aren't made to support 480x640 devices like the Axim v51, Diamond and Raphael, those apps may look weird (though they don't seem to be numerous), but generally still work.

thabks everyone for the quick responses, i was told that it depended on the app and that most prob wont work.. but the news is a lot better than what i thought.

weird, i got from the responses, that most will work, but smaller amount will not work.

I'd give it a cool 95% working 5% not working.

Though my own Raphael arrives tomorrow, so haven't actually tested yet. My Diamond experience tells me the above will be correct, though.

not only does almost every app work (see the touch diamond forums on xda-devs), but most will pixel double. some (not many) certainly will go to the top left corner of the screen, but I'm sure most apps will get a remake for vga if they don't already have one once the diamond/pro hit mainstream.... I haven't heard of a single app just not working....

My only worry is tcpmp. Not only is it free, its the best. I guess i'll finally have to give in and get core player

I need to research though, im not sure if the flv (youtube) hack works. Itd be nice to once again have veoh on a mobile phone

when you guys say pixel double and wm scales to fit screen what do you mean exactly. From the repsones i'm taking that this is a good thing, because don't most programs fit the screen? and by doubling the pixels you're saying that the screen gets alot clearer.
