Do you have to have service to change your ROM?

Hey I have been trying to flash new ROMs on my old HTC Touch Pro just to play around with them (the phone doesnt have service) and the RUU always shows a connection error message. Does anyone know whats happening?

Wirelessly posted (AdrianH85(TP2): Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP)

you do not need service to flash a custom rom!! if the activesync way doesnt work try the method in my sig called sd flashing( or something like that) it just putting the image on ur sd card and flashing without booting to windows mobile! its faster and i feel more safe to do on ur device

I have problems with my phone connecting to Mobile Device Center in Windows 7 sometimes. All I do is make sure my battery has a good charge. And manually put phone in bootloader (hold volume down, power, while pressing and holding the reset button) Then run the RUU.
Flashes like normal just make sure your battery is charged since it wont check that like normal.
