Does anybody know whats the clear LED-like area on the side of the top face speaker of the touch pro for??

Light sensor, There are mods for this to adjust the sensitivity. Search and you will find.

look for lumoswizard, I installed it and it seems to work well, adjusting the back light dependent on the ambient lighting.
Suposedly helps battery life. |

i've been using g-light because it works great. Lets you easily configure it. I've tried lumos as well and liked it, but g-light works for me now.
