no amount of software will cure the lag its a hardware issue.

What about VZNav? They don't have the problem because they have AGPS right?

I agree both Voque and Diamond would lag GPS using say iGuidance unless you used it through GPSGate. Any application that used a COM port to talk to GPS needed to use something like GPSGate.

However GoogleMaps didn't have this issue because it connected to the GPS device using a different interface (same interface GPSGate uses).

The TP2 has the same chips as the Diamond so I question that it's a "hardware" issue.

Re: Has the GPS lag problem been fixed with custom roms?

I have the same belief.. Why would HTC or any carrier release a product that can't keep up with the GPS software.

I bet 0/100 people have this problem with VZNav or Sprint's GPS.

cuz the Carrier nav software uses aGPS as well as gps. and its also specially written to use there aGPS servers as well. PS: Telus nav also lags.

You can argue, but its the truth. how i proved my point? i used a Bluetooth Palm GPS receiver and i get no lag.

the fact of the matter is the hardware does not poll the sats quick enough and some software compensates for that better then others. my iGO8 is still about 15 meters behind.
Only tried google maps in rush hour. My Igo8 is a little behind but not enough to bother me. I never miss turns and it is usually spot on. Seems to keep up with my speed. The speedo is usually spot on. That little lag does not bother me at all. I am happy with the performance. Alot better than the original Touch Pro. Besides, it is a phone first so I have no problems with it. If it is that important I always got that Garmin Navi I got for Christmas.

Yeah I have heard. I ditched Tomtom a while back when I was on the Touch Pro/Diamond. Too much of a hassle for me. IGO8 is lovely. Nice variety of maps and pois. And it works without data connection(I think).

Simply NOT true... Using Tom Tom on 4 seperate Verizon TP2's, and the GPS Gate fix running in the background has all but cured my problem. The lag with Tom Tom was at least 5-10 seconds behind and now is 1 second behind. I don't care how fast I'm going on the Highway that is good enough to not miss any turns. I agree the core problem might be hardware related, but CLEARLY software makes it usable.
