Re: Vzw no longer going to support free tethering?

None of the carriers are allowing free tethering. They all want you to pay extra for it. That's why how to tether threads are so popular on these forums. Try the suggestion mentioned above.

I think they did in the beginning, before they realized what a cash cow it could be for them. Seriously, you can pay for an unlimited data plan, but tethering still costs extra? That makes no sense...

You are definitely looking at this from a customers point of view LOL. When they released data on smartphones it wasn't meant to replace your home internet service its meant for on the go usage, it wasn't meant for people to start cancelling their cable and DSL services, geeks on here and xda figured out how to create these programs that would enable this, but this was never the vzw or sprints plan, except for blackberrys. That is why most companies put a cap on it because you're also stealing bandwidth and backhaul they could use to give us faster data speeds. But with wimax and lte they Are wanting that to replace some home internet users which is why the 5gb cap is removed for wimax. Maybe when wimax and lte are complete they might allow free tethering. I say this because only air cards and smartphones will be 4g (at least for the 1st 2 years says Verizon) and smartphone users are already tethering for free. Even in the android marketplace you can download PDA net for free which allows you to tether for free with your android.

They can't tell that you are tethering if you use the wifi tethering add-on. They can't charge you for something they don't know about...
