TP2 - power button doesn't always work, but sliding open turns it on

I have a sprint touch pro 2 for about a week. I've noticed that I can't always turn the screen on by pressing the power button. But I can get the screen to turn on by sliding out the keyboard.

I know a feature is that the screen blanks when I put the phone next to my ear. Just wondering if this feature could be not working properly.

Anyone else have this issue. It is intermittent. Sometimes the power button does turn the screen on like it should.

Thanks.

I have the Verizon one, I notice sometimes I touch the backlit button and it wont light up the screen too. I can hit it 5-7 times and it wont do anything.
