Need to turn Data Connection OFF (really Off!)

I'm heading out of the country in a few days, and to avoid unintentional data charges, want to turn Data off. I know where to do this in the usual Communication Settings area, but as we know, this is only a temporary adjustment. As soon as some program wants to access the internet, the Data Connection turns itself back on.

How do I turn if Off so that it won't turn back On by itself? I imagine this is to be done in the Advanced Settings area, where the various Networks are listed, but am a little uncertain as to exactly what choices to make there so that I don't unintentionally incur exorbitant data charges.

Thanks!

I'm sure there is something you can do from the phone, but otherwise you can call Sprint and they will block data for you. If for any reason you get charged then it will be documented that you wanted data blocked and they will reverse the charges.

We do this on our 7yr old's line.

Somehow, I doubt Sprint will block the data to a Verizon phone.... ;-)

Actually, I'm not sure VZ will block it as the data is required on a TP/TP2.

This cab will probably work although I've never tried it.

Thanks guys. I'll check out the NoData cab. I've recently learned that I can use the expand command to take a peek inside all of these .cab files to see what they're doing. Has proven interesting. I'd like to know what it does to stop Data - if it's changing a Network status in the Advanced section, or doing something else.

Inquiring minds want to know! :-)

@ john that is not %100 true when i still was using my touch pro i had a touch on my second line with out a data plan!!

@ op if u were going overseas i dont see why they wouldnt block ur data just until u came back!! but just to make sure if u are using a sim from another gsm provider just change the setting in setting>phone>network>mode of operation and change that to gsm/umts only! from there u shouldnt be able to use cdma data only gsm based data!!

A touch can be used without a data plan, a Touchpro or TP2 cannot (at least not without doing something we don't discuss here).
