Verizon Touch Pro 2 Data Speeds

What is the average speed I can be expecting for data over the Verizon network? (in an EV-DO Rev. A area)

With my old XV6800 (Running a custom ROM) I measured speeds over 2mbps, however I only had that phone on a data plan for several days. Running my Touch Pro 2 in the same area I usually hit around 700 kbps.

Is this normal? And is anyone else having the same problem, if it indeed a problem? I called Verizon and spoke to a customer service rep and he said between 400-700k is normal and expected with bursts up to 1.2mbps.

I regularly pull 2.0 to 2.5 down.

Re: Verizon Touch Pro 2 Data Speeds

Depends on your location, what towers and how many users connected.

I am right outside of NYC. EV can be pitiful at about 20kpbs or lower a lot of the time. I drive about 20 miles west and suddently I'm looking at 800kbps average.

I'm sure all carriers are like this but a little load balancing would be nice Verizon!

Re: Verizon Touch Pro 2 Data Speeds

Yea I live close to NYC too and the speeds can really vary. The fastest I have gotten was around 3.2Mbits and a few minutes later the same test was done and I only got around 900Kbits. So yea. Its really just all hit or miss in my area.

Re: Verizon Touch Pro 2 Data Speeds

I wonder if Verizon representatives are told to quote the EV-DO speed of the area. I went in to my local Verizon store last night and asked them what speeds I can expect. With Rev. A, The rep said the technology itself supports 400-700 kbps with bursts up to 1.4mbps (max speed). I told them about speeds faster than that and they told me it was impossible and I was testing bandwidth improperly.
