Duplicate Ring Tone Entries

I made a set of custom MP3's from my music to use as ringtones. Somehow or other I did this twice (once before I got my SD card, and once after, when I forgot I had emailed them all to myself before I had the card).

I've made my peace with TF3D, and when I use that to assign a Ringtone to someone in my Contact list, there are 2 entries listed for each of the MP3's I had created, and both of them work. My "inner OCD" needs to get rid of them!

I have deleted them from my SD card, turned the phone off/on, but the duplicate entries remain.

I used File Explorer, and find 2 sets of these MP3's in the main Devicestorage:
- one set is under "My Documents...My Ringtones"
- one set is under "Windows...Rings"

How do I eliminate these dual entries?
- delete one set of these files in one of the locations above?
- is this entered in the registry, and needs to be edited there?
- something else?

Thanks. After some initial disappointment with my TP2 when it arrived a week and a half ago, I'm finally getting into the swing of it, and think it's going to work out just fine. Just need to learn more about WM in general.

Re: Duplicate Ring Tone Entries

The phone by deafult searches for ringtones in two places:

\Windows and \Windows\Rings

You will notice that many of your "Alerts" are stored within the \Windows directory and many of the Rings are in the \Windows\Rings folder. I would suggest moving them to these locations to avoid duplicate entries.

Re: Duplicate Ring Tone Entries

all of my own ringtones are under "My Documents...My Ringtones" ... my "Windows...Rings" folder is empty. I don't think anything about ringtones is in the registry, but if you delete one of the sets, make sure you go to your contacts and double check that the "link" to the custom ringtone is still good. I deleted doubles once and then it killed the links 'cause I deleted the ones I originally made the link to. Quick fix, though.

I hope I explained that well enough. Sounds rambly, but the besst I can do.

Re: Duplicate Ring Tone Entries

Just to finish this up:

I deleted the mp3's in the My Documents...My Ringtones folder. This eliminated the dual entries. I rechecked my contacts, and only had to reset 1 or 2, as they must have previously referred to the deleted entries.

All is well!
