google exchange

i was extremely please to hear google had now moved their email system to the exchange server as well My only question is, being connected to exchange all day, does this severely drain my battery? i have just added the service this morning so i haven't been able to test the power consumption.

Re: google exchange

I sync with my company's Exchange server and my TP2 will go all day without a problem. 60-90 minutes on the phone, ActiveSync with Exchange, IMAP to my own mail server (10 minute polls), 100+ text messages and at least 30 minutes of screwing around in Opera... and from 7am - 11pm I still have at least 60% battery.

So, in short, I don't think you will see a negative impact.

Re: google exchange

Compared to not having activesync at all, it will drain the battery faster, but how much faster depends on the update interval you have set.

Nope. Push information is carried over signals already being received by your phone as I understand it. Thus, you shouldn't get much of a battery life decrease if you were syncing manually before, and might actually notice an improvement if you synced on a set schedule.

In practice, I haven't noticed any severe battery drain using it the last couple days. I've been pleasantly surprised with the battery life of the TP2 as a whole.

Re: google exchange

Ya, I was also confused only because I used push mail on my treo 755 back in the day and my data DIDN"T need to be connected, but when I read that your connection stays active I was worried. I set it up anyway and there is no battery drain that I notice, and your phone doesn't have an active connection all the time. The only time I have seen the data connection is when it pushes the mail to your phone. I was actually going to make a post about this awesome battery life and how I was NEVER able to get a signal at work with my vogue or TP1 and with the TP2 I get full service in my job, yay!

Re: google exchange

when using the IMAP i only had the daily email on my phone, all of the past mail would leave the phone inbox automatically each night. (I dont like to have to mark as read or delete etc to get the mail off my phone...)

Is there a way to do this with exchange. I set it to download the past one day and ydays mail was still here today... is it 24 hrs of syncing or will the mail stay on my phone...

Re: google exchange

I didn't think there was an option in exchange that will allow you to just have today's mail. I think its basically "a snap shot" of your email so what it looks like in your inbox on the pc it will look like the exact same on ppc. I could be wrong...

with exchange you don't set intervals it automatically downloads the message as soon as it comes in, google just upgraded. Before exchange correct you had to set the intervals.

Yes, with Exchange you gain the opportunity to use push mail. You can still set Intervals though!

Open ActiveSync, then go to Menu -> Schedule.

If it's set to "As items arrive" then you'll get your emails immediately. Or, set it to another value to save on battery life. My office is a dead zone for cell signal, so I actually set my phone to switch to "Manually" during my work day, and "As items arrive" when I leave the office to save my battery.

Re: google exchange

You can set exchange to keep your last month of email, last week, last day, or entire mailbox if you like.
