Re: t9 with hw keyboard?

This little trick (enabled traditionally under Settings --> Input) basically suggests words as you type. It serves two purposes when typing:
  1. It makes typing long words quicker
  2. Acts like default spell-check
I've been using it for years and for some reason, at least on the Touch Pro 2, they disabled this function

IMPORTANT: Be sure that
HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0
Simply change these two registry keys under:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e001 0409
  • Ime File: \windows\et9ime.dll --> Ime File: \windows\compime.dll
  • Layout Text : ET9 IME --> Layout Text : COMP IME
Soft reset and you're done!

(
Note: There is a slight change from the original post where the Sprint version is "ET9" instead of "XT9")

Edit: Ahem, credit goes to my post at WMExperts, where this was copied from

Hope that does the trick for you. Report back how it goes. Should do it.

This little trick will break the TP2's Full QWERTY keyboard, so just keep that in mind. If you get the phone to display the number pad, it's not going to be able to change back into the standard keyboard.

Re: t9 with hw keyboard?

I haven't tested this yet on the TP2... but yes, on the TP1, it caused the issued described above where periodically it would revert to the "number/symbols only" view. That's why it's a cautionable solution at best.

On the TP2, it also breaks the soft keyboard by converting the Spacebar key to be split between , and .

Re: t9 with hw keyboard?

Gah. Why can't HTC just give us both things instead of making them co-dependent.

IT WORKS GREAT!, but I can not switch the keyboard to Arabic language after the modifications of the IME.
