TP2 Control key on physical Keyboard

Does anyone have any idea how to convert the mail key on the physical keyboard into a Control key? The key is definitely there on the soft keyboard that is called "keyboard", so the device clearly supports the function. Any insight into this issue greatly appreciated!

One of the issues here is that I've noticed all the North American TP2 models have *different* keyboard layouts. Might be something as simple as a registry change, might not be. Some of the US models have CTRL and ALT keys on them... buy on those keyboards you have to use FN+a key to type a number.

Telus doesn't have a CTRL or ALT key at all on the hw keyboard.

neither does vzw. i read that htc took the ctrl key completely out actually. and on vzw one we have a star button for either favorites, head that here, or a favorite application, read that on endgadget (said wrong) and i love ctrl+c, ctrl+V

maybe they made it so fn key is a ctrl/fn key :o

edit: tmobile has a ctrl button

I know that this should be possible because there are soft keyboards built in that have a functioning control key as I stated in the original post the soft keyboard called simply "keyboard" has a function key and it works, so I am looking for a way to remap the keys on the physical keyboard, preferably the mail key. thanks for the input though but I need one of the heavy weight hackers on the board to weigh in on this one.

I just saw the T mobile version and it has it. The phone is a lot nicer looking in person. Feels really solid. Lucky T mobile. I m with sprint and it looks like it will be the mail button...lame!

Personaly I'd use a CTRL key way more than the dedicated messaging or SMS key! Hopefully somebody can come up with something. AE Button Plus would be a logical choice if it could be used to map a keyboard key to a CTRL function.

as long as it uses less memory and i dont know its running im game. usually im not for one of them apps. id rather find a regedit if its one simple change but for this i might. WHO KNOW i might just get used to using the touch screen to copy and paste :D

I made a similar thread over at XDA and got no responses... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545636

I tried modifying the keymaps like people were doing in this thread but it didn't seem to make any difference:
