TP2 in Italy?
I'm traveling to Italy (mostly Florence/Tuscany and Rome) and want to use my old HTC Touch Pro 2 from Sprint while I'm there. I believe I can just buy a sim card on a prepaid phone plan in Italy that will work for voice and maybe data.
A couple questions: if I use WIFI, will I be using any data on the prepaid phone plan? Can I use GPS or some sort of Nav program or CAB while in Italy that won't use data on the phone plan? I used to use Bing for a Nav program and it was great, until the shut it down. Lastly, if I remove the Sprint sim card and install an Italian sim card, will that wipe out all my contacts? Thanks for any ideas. |
Let's see if I remember any of this. Voice and data will work fine with a local sim card. Data may only be limited to edge like speeds. I doubt anything like 3G. I've never seen a stand alone gps app that doesn't use data for that phone. I had way too many contracts to keep them on the Sprint sim, but there may be a way to transfer yours to the local card. Have a safe trip.

Re: TP2 in Italy?
Thanks for the info. Any suggestions on an app (cab?) to try that I can save to a sd card for GPS?

Re: TP2 in Italy?
Give this exe a shot. I would practice using the GPS in your area before your trip. Remember that you need to be outdoors for the TP2 to get a lock without AGPS. Have fun!
